INTRODUCTION
This course will provide the practical and theoretical knowledge and skills needed in order for dental nurses to competently apply topical fluoride to adult and child patients from a prescription of a dentist or as part of a community project.

What are the objectives of this course?
By the end of the course dental nurses will be able to:
Be competent in the safe selection and dosage of topical fluoride and have the knowledge of how to deal with an acute overdose of fluoride varnish
Be familiar with the Aetiology of dental disease and the principles of prevention
Demonstrate competency in safely applying fluoride through completion of a portfolio of experience
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding through set assignments

Do I need to complete some practical tasks ?
Yes, as course incorporates a Portfolio of Competence and therefore nurses must have access to 5 patients aged 4-6 years old, 5 patients aged 7-12 years old and 5 patients aged 13 and above.
Do I get additional CPD hours for portfolio completion?
Yes, satisfactory completion of portfolio of completion gives additional 6 hours of CPD
Is there a time frame for completion of portfolio ?
Yes within one month from the date of course attended.
